With heavy hearts, we recall the arrival of Simotua, a young orphaned elephant whose wounds bore witness to the cruelty of humanity.

Despite a gaping spear wound marring his forehead and a merciless snare ravaging his right front leg, exposing bone and flesh to the unforgiving elements, Simotua’s spirit burned bright, a beacon of courage in the face of unimaginable suffering.

For months, we fought alongside Simotua, navigating the treacherous path of healing and hope. With each passing day, his wounds slowly closed, and his strength returned, a testament to his indomitable will and the tireless dedication of his caretakers.

But fate, in its cruel caprice, had other plans, as Simotua’s injured leg became a relentless adversary, defying all efforts at permanent relief.

Despite our best efforts, Simotua’s condition deteriorated, his once vibrant spirit eclipsed by the relentless grip of pain and suffering.
