Riding atop Sharon, a 14-month-old orphaned calf rescued from the Sathyamangalam Forests, they journey homeward and even share moments of peaceful sleep beside Giri, another orphaned calf rescued from the Hosur Forest.

Mahout Rajan marvels at his daughter Lavindya’s special bond with the elephants. He notes how the calves obey her commands and reciprocate her affection by wrapping their trunks around her.

This deep bond ensures that the elephants feel safe and cared for, which is essential for their well-being and survival.

While the zoo receives government funding, additional resources are needed to ensure the well-being of these orphaned calves.

Zoo director P.L. Ananthasamy emphasizes the importance of dedicated support and a rehabilitation center for orphaned elephants, underscoring these elephants’ invaluable role in nurturing and caring for the calves.

The heartwarming bond between orphaned elephant calves and children is a testament to nature’s resilience and the power of companionship to transcend boundaries and species.
